Crime Scene Cleanup Service Overview

Cleaning up at a crime scene can mean a variety of different things depending on the crime. Violent crimes like murder immediately invoke imagery of blood and carnage, but even less violent crimes like a break-in can require biohazard removal services. Streaks of blood on a broken window, bodily fluids on the floor, or blood spatter from a more serious injury can all pose serious health risks.

Crime Scene Cleanup Process

Prior to beginning our work, we make sure that our team is taking proper precautions and following OSHA guidelines to be safe during the cleanup. If the crime took place in a residence, we will help the family find a place to stay if needed, as well as helping retrieve any personal belongings that might be necessary for that timeframe.

  • Assessment – Whether we are contacted by a private party or the police department directly, we start out by getting information about the crime/event that occurred. Having contact with the police department prior to starting our work will allow us to properly assess any hazards or health risks that we will need to address during our work. Information gathered during the initial assessment will be used to aid the creation of a plan of action so we can be certain that we are treating the premises for all biohazards.

  • Removing Contamination Source – We will first work to remove anything that has been impacted by blood or bodily fluids. Crimes involving gunfire, drug use, or a chemical deterrent can dramatically increase the area of impact, resulting in a much wider area of potential contamination.

  • Decontamination & Cleanup  – Once all sources of contamination have been removed from the crime scene, we begin the process of decontamination and cleanup, disinfecting any remaining areas using EPA-approved disinfectant chemicals.

Our work progress is documented via photographs, and any items that need to be transported to a medical waste disposal facility are documented as well. This could include flooring, drywall, and personal items, as this information may be required by the police department, or by homeowner’s insurance if there is an insurance claim submitted.

Bodily Fluids & Human Waste

Depending on the type of crime that was perpetrated, the scene may be impacted beyond what is visible on the surface. Our technicians are trained to find all the areas that need to be cleaned and disinfected to ensure your home or property is returned to a safe, habitable state.

Vehicle Cleanup

If the crime involves a vehicle, we can help coordinate our services with the impound lot and/or vehicle repair shop. In some instances, we may need to transport the vehicle to our facility for decontamination prior to releasing it for repairs. Regardless of the situation, we will work with your insurance company to get your vehicle returned to you as quickly and safely as possible.

Infectious Disease Cleanup

If there are concerns that bodily fluids spilled at the crime scene could contain infectious diseases, there is even more reason to have a professional biohazard cleaning service out to remediate your home. We will clean and disinfect your home so you and your family can feel safe again.

Frequently Asked Questions

Prior to starting service, the police will need to release the scene or property back to the owners. At that point, we will be able to enter and assess the scope of work. In many situations, we can begin the cleanup process within 24 hours of being contacted.

We work closely with all the first responders and will assist them if needed. However, we are a cleaning company, and our primary focus is to make sure that your home or property is safe from any biohazardous risks that may be present after a crime has occurred.

In most cases, your insurance policy should cover the costs of a biohazard cleanup. Some policies have exclusions, so it is important to find out for sure from your insurance company. We will assist with the entire claims process, including documentation for items that were damaged or removed. This will help ensure you can get replacement value on the things that were impacted due to the criminal act that occurred.
